Birmingham City Korfball Club History

The Start
Birmingham City was founded in September 2005 by Craig Gosling and was quickly joined by Birmingham University Secretary Sally Akers. The clubs first training session took place on a dark October evening at Selly Park. The club, after a whistle stop tour around various Birmingham Sports Centre, finally found a home at the newly built Selly Park Technology College School for girls. Where still today, we train every Wednesday at 7pm.

Instant Success
Birmingham City soon aspired to greatness is their first season where they finished Second in the former CEKL Division 2, and gained promotion to the CEKL Division 1 at the first time of asking. Their second and third year in the Division they finished a respectable 2nd, only to improve in 2009 to become champions without losing a game.

West Midlands Korfball League
In 2006 saw the first edition of the West Midlands Indoor league which saw the creation of our Second and subsequent third team. But it was the summer league which saw the first piece of silver wear come to Birmingham, as Birmingham City 1 won 7 out of their 8 matches.

First Team
The first team currently plays in the regional Central England Regional League 1. With 12 fixtures a year, this team is highly committed and some of its members have international caps.

Second Team
The second team plays in the local South Midlands League 1, after getting promoted the season before. The second team is a great place for newcomers to learn how to play korfball in a competitive environment.
