Last weekend saw Birmingham City’s 1st, 2nd and 3rd teams in action, all on #SuperSaturday, at home.

3s vs Warwick- 13-8

The 3rd team kicked off the day with a game against an improving Warwick side (with a lovely kit, it should be said!).

Warwick was lead by Birmingham City’s friend and Ireland international,  Sarah Kelly, and also featured City’s own Alex Hubert! The match started slowly – with both teams struggling to score. Once the goals started to flow, Birmingham got out to an early lead, but Warwick fought back to 8 all in the 2nd half. Some clever play from Liam saw Brum run out the eventual winners 13-8.

1s vs Nomads- 13-12

A large crowd were in attendance to watch the 1s in their first home match of the season, against National League regulars- Nomads.

The game was low scoring throughout, with Nomads leading until the final moments. Early into the 2nd half Nomads had opened up a 3 goal lead which, without the 1s flawless team spirit, some would’ve thought was insurmountable. We also lost Laura to a nasty injury which affected the atmosphere surrounding the game. Luckily, Caroline was up to the task of filling the void, helping the attack flow and scoring a superb goal to get us back into the game. Going into the final few minutes, Alex slotted home a crucial goal to level the game. Many thought it might end with a draw but not the 1s Captain- Ness. After a well-worked attack Ness found herself in space only 2 metres from the post, and scoring the winning goal.

A game of ups and downs but the team’s belief and determination was never rocked.

2s vs UoB1s – 19-6

The 2s took to the court against local side University of Birmingham 1s. City played some very clinical korf with the girls in particular showing what they’re made of, scoring 13 of City’s impressive goal tally.
