The 15th December looked like any other Sunday for Brum City until we remembered our 1s were playing National League giant, Bec, and our 2s were playing a red hot, brand new side…. our 3s!
The 1s arrived at North Solihull Sports Centre buoyed by last Sundays gutsy performance against Trojans and knowing that Bec would be of a similar kin; boasting a plethora of international talent in their side. With the scoreboard out of action the Phillips sisters set to work creating a replacement and wondering just how high they should prepare the board to go? (with coach Beale clearly expecting a club record 30-plus goal total and a classic Christmas plunder!) The first half was solid all round from Brum as we held Bec to 12 and netted 4 ourselves, 2 lovely shots from the outside coming from experienced NL-player, Emma. In the second half Bec upped their work rate and started to impose themselves on the Brum City attack making it really difficult to create opportunities. Up the other end of the court the BCKC defending was solid as ever frustrating Bec for decent spells. In the end the match will be remembered for a solid defensive display; holding a team of such quality to 26 goals while learning some valuable lessons in attack to take in to the new year. Final score, Bec 26- BCKC 4.
And with that, the epic encounter that was 2s vs 3s began! General team manager Tattoo barking out teams and captains before the action got underway. From the sidelines we were seeing 1 on 1 match ups to savour as the game ebbed and flowed it’s way to a dangerously poised 4-4 at half time. With each player knowing the ins and outs of their opponent there were solid defensive displays in both ends of the court with the 2s eventually finding the lethal shots to take the game just beyond the 3s. The 2s may have won 8-6 but the club was the real winner on such a day of celebration for everyone involved.
Here’s to founders, co-founders, committee members and players past and present for bringing the club to this point and allowing us to be so excited for what the future holds. Roll on and epic 2014 for BCKC! Merry Christmas everyone.
