After last week’s postponement the 1s were chomping at the bit to get back on court and try to add to their NL points tally. For the first game of 2014 a very strong Nomads side were the visitors to Birmingham, sporting 2 free scoring male players who have seen them to 3rd place in the NL over Christmas. Birmingham struggled to get going as Nomads showed their class racing to a 14- 2 lead inside 20 minutes. Brum then sorted their defence out and started attacking with more purpose to score 5 unanswered goals (a good feat in any National League game). A tight 10 minutes at the start of the second half was pleasing to see but then Nomads changed their game plans and ran away with the 2nd half as well eventually winning 29-13. Still- we had debut National League goals for two more players, Simon and Caroline W, with well worked team goals from all over the court; a good sign of things to come.

After the 1s, the 2s took to the court to play another EMKL local derby against Brum Uni 2. With a 20-9 win in the first Uni 2 game of the season BCKC were hoping for another convincing win to start climbing the EMKL table. The match started at a quick pace with City hitting 5 goals quickly. Uni then showed how good a side they can be with a hat full of goals, and no reply, to level things at 5-5. This must have woken our City side up because from then on they did not look back, scoring 4 goals before half time to go to the break 9-5 up. The second half was competitive but ultimately City showed their class and came away 17-10 winners. A stand out performance from Eugene in only his 2nd game of korfball scoring 6 great goals. (Bov also did quite well with 7, but we expect those kind of numbers from the Bov-star!)

Another epic Sunday of action for Brum City with performances to be proud of.
